Knowing ... First modification

Acrylic, Matt Perspex, Sponge Foam, Ingredient, Brass, Dowel on canvas
600x760

This is a perfect example of my Evolutionary Artworking concept. So what is Evolutionary Artworking?

I believe an artwork need not be entirely complete simply because it's ready to be hung. My art continues its life journey, evolving with the family or holder of the piece. Knowing has just started its evolutionary journey. This young couple have celebrated their first year anniversary. Having provided me with some personal writings describing their past year, I was given the painting for further development and re-certification of authenticity.
Hence my unique practice of Evolutionary Artworking. Perhaps their next modification may be due to a new family member?

When viewing my artworks, or for that matter my professional projects you'll see each has a detailed synopsis. Especially relevant for my Fine Art, I describe the motivation behind each piece. This piece was inspired by the marriage of a young couple. This being their first Evolutionary Artwork, meaning they've had the piece for a time, and have handed it back for further development to bring it in sync with their lives todate.
The modification takes into account their personal writings, but it also brings in my interpretation of their journal accounts.
For privacy reasons I will not expand on that area, how ever I will reflect on my rationale.

Knowing... the first evolutionary phase.
Quite dynamic, professional and creative in both their fields, I felt a sense of going beyond accepted conventions. Youth has an innate sense of adventure, and with that by default - courage. The discovery of exotic cultures and travels feature in their common delights. This first part signified by the applied elements sitting outside of the rectangular boundaries of the initial work.

Their home along the seaside is their base. Being at home offers safety, a reassuring routine, normality and comfort. Where each can be in the other's essence. Whether that be by their scent, clothes, or collected bits and pieces. To come home and relax, to be oneself with their partner must be the warmest feeling on earth. I signify this by the clear side of the matt perspex with its evenly placed dots. These symbolise their genuine selves, who they really are without pretence or forced persona. We all wear these personas most of the time.

The matt perspex sits high to subtly obscure the detail beneath. The viewer in turn approaches the artwork to look - be it from one side or from below, in order to discover what is under. This offers some viewer interaction with the work, also a sharing in the discovery personality of this couple.

The left edge of the work is graphically textured and contradictory. Never expect the expected. The lush folding swirls of the blue base seem smooth perhaps even soft. This is dotted with uneven white digits piercing out. These assume a hard brittle nature. Yet in fact the base is rock hard, and the white protrusions are soft and flexible, this reflective of the couples creativity being unique.

The dowels that lift the Guatemalan Olmec graphic from the artwork are capped with Brass. These signify a developing relationship, maintaining its preciousness like the preciousness of gold. Beautiful, soft and ever lasting like the exotic nature of civilisations past.

Where the future begins and grows, is where they are together. Physically, spiritually, memorably.
