Idn't he cute?!
This is an example of what you'll find in the Satirical Cartoons section above.
Whilst viewing the lead up advertisements for the 2004 Great Debate I felt the widely publicised Worm concept was hugely under marketed. Trading so heavily on the Worm idea (defined below), I sincerely believed the Nine Network should provide the now iconic, albeit functionally weak, screen scribble a personality. I created the character below in several expressions to be presented on screen, on cue reflective of the audience's mood of the debate. The concept was emailed to several contacts within the Network for consideration.

For those unfamiliar with the Worm concept, it is simply an on screen reflector. A squiggly line that moves upwards in favour of, or down in negative reflection of the direction of the debaters rhetoric. It's a bit of a delayed response, however it's accepted and has made an appearance during the last several Australian federal elections. It's driven by a supposed sampled audience of the general public. They twist a knob according to their view and feeling as a live debate between the two major political leaders carries on.

Normal Worm.

Considerate Worm.

Conscience Worm.

The well known and respected WORM. What a personality. Shouldn't such a marketable identity be given the face he deserves?

In political circles they fear the Worm. Watching the debate from a critically constructive point of view, I felt the popularity of the Worm idea, should have been given a clearer, more defined connection with the viewing audience. Via a characterisation.

Being a satirical cartoonist, member of the Cartoonist Association, I am offering the Nine Network my professional view. My only request is clear creditation at end of programs.

I would sincerely enjoy speaking with you to discuss future requirements as they arise. Simply click on an email BWd button to contact me.
