LOO LITIGATION; "Has
it been thought about in Albert or Gold Coast town plans?
Alas we fear not, but again from the Guardian comes the tale of Muslim tenants
in Blackburn, Lancashire, who have petitioned the local housing department
to have their toilets turned around so they no longer face Mecca.
Using a toilet while facing Mecca breaches the Islamic code of personal
conduct.
The council has worked out that each 'turn-around' would cost in the vicinity
of four hundred British pounds.
The Director of Housing has explained that when the estate was originally
built in 1966 there were very few ethnic families in the area and the positioning
of toilets was not a consideration.
Rafiq Malik, Director of Blackburn's Racial equity council ...has been assured
the factor would always be considered in new schemes for ethnic housing." |
