CHINK IN THE ARMOUR;
"Did you know the tie had its origins in the 17th century, the period
of the Thirty Years War in Europe. The introduction of light cavalry brought
about the elimination of armour, except for breast and back plates.
To avoid chafing, a strip of cloth was wound around the neck and tucked
inside the top edge of the armour. It also kept the edge of the shirt secure
around the neck." |
