Leading up to the 2004 Australian Federal Election one thing lead to another. Someone I knew, knew someone else and then I found myself involved in politics. The Australian Greens is a young, dynamic and energetic political party. There's a sense of integrity about the Australian Greens, and so I set out to offer them my abilities in graphic design and public persuasion.
Below are several projects and concepts presented and offered to the Greens in aid of gaining the political seat of Bennelong, or as I call it "Been-a-long time for a change". This seat is held by John Howard, the current Australian Prime Minister and was contested by former public servant Andrew Wilkie. Andrew challenged the seat based on specific lies perpetuate in the same vein as George W Bush by John Howard and the Liberal party. Ultimately he did not win this seat, however his admirable attempt did send shock waves throughout Mr Howard's Liberal campaign team as much of his public support voted against the status quo, inturn supporting Wilkie thus weakening Howard's political position considerably.

Above; Front and rear flyer created for residents living outside of the Seat of Bennelong. Typographic consistency being most important.

Left; Asked to present a more dynamic, fresher, more easy to browse web site. The original Homepage can be seen at bottom of this page.
I proposed the following changes. My main point being that the Home page presents itself in whole on the viewers screen. No scroll downs, or excessive download animations.
I suggested silhouetting the top left grey strip with the Opera House, being the most recognised aspect of the Seat of Bennelong.
Contrasting the relaxed top banner vision of Wilkie with a short depth of field business/political setting between two men.
Maintaining the right side selection, but adding general lifestyle and family visuals which could link into policies backed and proposed by the Greens. For example Medicare, Senior citizens, families, youth...

Above; My suggested improved version of the actual pages.

Left; The actual homepage screen. A great website to begin with, I believe it merely required several adjustments.

Left; An actual webpage. An example where excessive screen scrolling could potentiall frustrate browsers. My proposal being to limit this by using flagged drop pointers, as shown in above examples.
